Get Started with Body Composition

Body composition goes beyond weight, providing valuable insight regarding fat, muscle, water, cellular health, and more.
The fitness and medical community requires precise tools and accurate data to keep up with increasingly advanced needs, and Charder is proud to present its new Body Composition Analyzers featuring Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), designed to assist professionals in elevating program quality and progress analysis.

A new generation of detailed measurements

Professional-grade results in less than 50 seconds

Charder's body composition analyzers utilize an eight electrode multi-frequency segmental analysis system, clinically validated as a trusted method of calculating body composition measurements.

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis

Through Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), our devices send a safe, alternating current through the body using the tactile points on the machine. Through advanced algorithms analyzing the resistance to the electric flow, we can provide outputs for muscle, fat, water, cellular health, metabolism, and much more!

Is your body balanced?

Take your practice to the next level with professional application of advanced Body Composition Analysis.

  • Percent Body Fat - Analyze how much fat is in your body, and track progress towards your goals. Go beyond your bathroom scale, and measure what matters.

  • Visceral Fat - Abdominal Visceral Fat is used as a critical cut-off point for risk of obesity-related diseases, which may not be visible from the outside.

  • Body Water - Identify abnormalities in water balance as a warning sign for diseases affecting body fluid balance, including impaired heart and function.

  • BMuscle - Understanding skeletal muscle and body fat proportions can help trainers formulate muscle and fat control recommendations.

  • Muscle Quality - stimation of Grip Strength provides a valuable muscle quality indicator that can point to changes more quickly and noticeably than a simple measurement and tracking of muscle mass.

Introduction to BIA

BIA works by sending a weak alternating current through the body, and measuring the resulting drop in voltage caused by the resistance level of body tissue against the current, known as "Impedance" or "Z".

Impedance is formed using a combination of two components: ohmic resistance (known as "Resistance" or "R") of the electrolyte-containing extra- and intracellular fluid, and the capacitive resistance (known as "Reactance" or "Xc") produced by cell membranes.

What can we learn from Resistance?

In general terms, water acts as a conductor, so more body water correlates with decreased Resistance. According to this principle, because muscle contains a significant amount of water, subjects with increased muscle mass will have less Resistance. Conversely, because fat acts as an insulator, more fat correlates with increased Resistance.

What can we learn from Reactance?

When the electric current passes through body cells, cell membranes can store the charge and act like capacitors, creating capacitive resistance. Thus, Reactance is used to determine the cell's ability to store energy, indirectly reflecting cellular integrity and strength.

Using clinically validated algorithms, BIA devices can calculate the amount of fat, muscle, body water, and other parameters using Impedance, Reactance, Resistance, and other variables such as height, gender, age, and weight.

The applicability of a BIA device fundamentally depends on the applied mathematical equations and algorithms used to calculate body composition. Development and validation of these equations is a technically complex process, and the validity of the equations ultimately determines the accuracy of the BIA device!
